“54 YEARS LATE” is a short film that tells the gut-wrenching true-life story of Terry Gene Wright, a 58-year-old African American man who was not diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) until the age of 54 despite being seen by an array of healthcare practitioners, enduring countless hospitalizations and surgeries, and having all the classic symptoms of CF - a progressive and genetic disease that’s often perceived to affect only the Caucasian population. Written and directed by Michele Wright, Ph.D., and produced by Butterbean Productions, this movie emotionally depicts Terry’s roughly 5 ½-decade painful and surreal journey from childhood to adulthood to finally being diagnosed with CF “54 YEARS LATE”!

Meeting the looks of the two young men will kick off a series of encounters and confrontations with other people who will get on the yellow-gold taxi of Mamadou by delaying the delivery of the bag. When the day is over, Mamadou will lose his beloved taxi and go home on foot with Ernesto, a new friend, and perhaps with a future appointment with Aaida.

‘I Stand Proud’ is a spoken word piece that encourages black students and people to stand out freely for who they are, whenever they appear to be the minority in an institution.

This piece was originally part of a theatre performance I created at university called FUSE. The performance explored and celebrated race and identity between three women of different races, through: theatre, spoken word, music, and dance.

I Stand Proud

Odd Man Out: The Series

This is the story of Mr. Rafael Castrillon, a master toymaker with more than fifty years of experience and a former Mr. Peru in bodybuilding. His story is a one-way ticket towards the manufacture of the traditional (incomplete) wooden toy.

I’ m travelling. I’ m leaving a city behind me for another city. I hope a different one. I suppose, someone else must be travelling to reach the city that I’m leaving. Maybe the journey takes place only inside us. Maybe the city itself is only inside us. What indeed is a city, rather than the way we see it. Violence follows me everywhere. For a while the colors fade and the place loses its power, I'm not sure where I am. How different is a tourist town from a real one. Is fascism something acquired or something that we are born with?

‘TRADE’ tells the story of two men, one a streetwise hustler, the other a straight-laced lawyer, who meet and form a relationship that brings to light who they really are.
As their relationship deepens and their lives intertwine, the complexity and dangers of it reveal themselves in ultimately tragic ways.

Samuel Taft is black police officer with the Philadelphia Police Department. He’s an officer that bleeds blue but is also conflicted with the violence cops throughout the nation are perpetuating on African Americans. Samuel believes in the importance of his job, but hates the fact that officers commit these injustices and are never charged or even prosecuted. Samuel’s twin brother, Howard Taft, quit the police force for many of the same reasons. His nephew, Smith Taft, is very progressive and often reminds Samuel of the double life he seems to be living. Samuel must come to terms with the career he’s chosen and everything that comes with it or try and fight back against the system for his people. Ultimately, he must choose which side he’s truly on.
