„One without a name, from an unknown society, his actions following a goal that only he knows. He invigorates. He leaves traces. He puts himself into action. But a fight without an opponent is a never ending one that will not lead to victory. The fight against the ocean is at the same time a fight against the fear of death itself.“

Open Water

The film "The pictures come at night" accompanies the former forced laborer Czeslawa Wölfel in her last months of life.
The old lady lives in a retirement home near Bielefeld. It is difficult for her to come to terms with her new home. Nobody really has time. And certainly no time to listen. It would be worth listening to stories from more than 80 years of German-Polish life, in which only violence and unconditional love for their children were reliable figures.
Czeslawa was born in Poland in 1927, she would have had the opportunity to go to high school. Instead, however, her way led to Germany - into forced labor.
The film is shaped by Czeslawa's relentless tales about her extraordinary, yet historically exemplary life. In turn, everyday observations are in the style of the Cinema Verité. The camera observes the family, who, despite great challenges, has maintained a loving attitude and their sense of humor. It is always close, but never judgmental. This was made possible by the filmmaker's close relationship of trust with the family members. She has been friends with Czeslawa's children for more than twenty years.

The pictures come at night

In “This Is An Invitation” I examine the possibilities for women in today's society to shape their lives freely. Using a performative videocollage, I would like to show the contradicting demands that women and their bodies are confronted with nowadays, especially through popular cultural media. Following the “cultural hacking” I make use of popular statements on the topic, but undermine them by connecting them to one another in a new way.

This Is An Invitation

In March 2014, Australian filmmaker Joshua Belinfante was told he might only have a short time left to live. Forced to confront his own mortality, he thought about what he would do with his life if he was somehow given a second chance. He realised that he wanted to travel the world and find people that were fulfilling what their inner child always dreamt of doing. At the time of his diagnosis, Joshua was studying to become a solicitor and had put off his dreams to become a filmmaker. ‘The World’s Best Film’ is an anthology documentary about 13 individuals striving to be the world’s best at their passions.
