Lida is an ageing theatre director. She sets a play about the tragic consequences of love affair of the respected family head. Young girl Yana comes to auditions. She is the perfect embodiment of a paramour - brazen, cheeky and defiantly sexy. During the auditions Lida's dislike suddenly turns into something strange and intricate. Where is the acting and where is the reality, who is the director now - everything is not clear.
Z=1 is a short film that sheds a small spotlight on a huge topic, which is the Syrian refugees in the west. Influenced by the experiences of writer/director Bashaar Jouhar and many other syrian refugees. In the course of the film, we will follow the main character Mohammad, a chemical engineer from Syria, in a week of his life in Norway. Mohammad is trying to run from his past in war, by finding a human connection with a girl he likes hoping that this love will finally make him find a home he lost. “In this short film I wanted to talk briefly about the struggle of the Syrian people as refugees in the west. All the characters in the film are looking for something and running from another. The film will explore how the circumstances of each character will have a huge impact of their wants and needs. Being a refugee myself I had to go through many hard and new things, from the day the war broke out till today. one of them is trying to find a new home in a new country and new society. To find that no matter how much I try home will never be just replaced.” - Bashaar Jouhar
Danny is an ostrich living in Glasgow with his roommate, a monkey named Nelson. After a failed suicide attempt over the break up with his girlfriend, Danny seeks counselling to help him recover from his ordeal and get his life back on track. After meeting Lizzie during a pub quiz, friendship quickly turns into romance but when Danny’s former lover reaches out to him again, he finds his new relationship under threat. With his life at a crossroads, Danny reaches out to his psychiatrist for advice that would eventually help him decide whether to open past wounds or plan a new future with Lizzie.

Each 30-minute episode focuses on one individual excelling in an area of the Arts and explores their craft and their lived-experience. Episode #2 - Prue Stevenson, is about one of Australia’s top emerging visual and performance artists, having exhibited work nationally and notably at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Australia, in Sydney. Prue’s art practice was birthed from her identity as an autistic woman and is an integral way that she connects with the world around her. Many of her art pieces invite audiences into her autistic culture, sharing and celebrating her unique “Prue version of Autism”. We too are invited into Prue’s story, travelling on her journey to becoming a leading artist in Australia.
